Inshore fishing by definition is the ability to fish the shallow waters that are found on coastal flats like the SC lowcountry, creek beds, jetties, rivers and harbor shores. These areas can be impossible to reach from the shoreline due to their expansive nature and general lack of any access point from shore due to instable soil conditions or thick impenetrable coastal growth. Specialized sea craft with wide beams and flat bottoms are required to navigate these shallow waters sometimes only a few inches deep. Captain Chappy’s fleet consists of two specialized fishing boats, the 23' Seapro and the 17' Kirkland skiff designed and engineered specifically to fish these otherwise inaccessible waterways.
Captain Chappy will fillet your day's bounty right at the dock and coordinate with the acclaimed chefs at Waters Edge Restaurant to cook your fresh catch into a meal you'll never forget. It's the ultimate Charleston fishing experience from rod to plate.
Tidal movement, the season, and changes in water temperature all dictate where the fish are on any given day. Since Captain Chappy fishes year round you’ll always have a chance to catch the species that prefer the shallow coastal waters and flats including: Charleston’s most notorious Spotted Seatrout and Red Drum (Redfish) other common species we’ll fish are Flounder, Sheepshead, Jack Crevalle, Lady FIsh and Black Drum. Several species of sharks also find habitat in the shallow waters of the Charleston coastline like Atlantic Sharpnose, Bull, Hammerhead, and Bonnethead, but no need to worry JAWS was just a movie, and Captain Chappy puts the safety of his passengers above all.
Our inshore fishing charters depart from the docks of Shem Creek. Shem Creek’s history dates back well into the 1700’s as a native American site. Captain C. Magwood solidified Shem Creek’s historic prevalence as the heart of the shrimping industry in the 1930’s and remains a destination launching fishing boats, as well as providing a full array of dining and boating experiences.
In tune with its past your inshore fishing charter will navigate the tidal creeks, coastal rivers, grass flats, oyster bars and jetties of the SC Lowcountry. These areas provide an ideal habitat for Redfish, Spotted Sea Trout, Flounder, Sheepshead, Black Drum as well as several species of sharks. One notable difference between inshore fishing and offshore is the inland waters are calm vs the often violent open waters. For those prone to sea sickness you’ll find these calm waters far more palatable, which lets you fully enjoy your fishing experience.
